Commercial & Residential
Specialty Structures Engineering
Right Angle Engineering provides PE-stamped structural engineering for specialty structures: projects that fall outside standard residential and commercial framing but still require a licensed engineer and stamped plans. We work with contractors, developers, and property owners across all 50 states.
From a single sign mount to a substation pad, we deliver stamped plans fast, with most projects returned within 48 hours. Our engineers are familiar with the permit requirements and AHJ expectations in every jurisdiction we serve.
Every Plan Set Includes
What Specialty Structures Engineering Covers
We provide structural engineering and stamped plans for the following specialty structure types:
Signs and Awnings
Commercial signage and awnings require structural engineering when the structure is of a certain size, when it attaches to a building, or when the local jurisdiction requires a PE stamp for the permit. We calculate wind and seismic loads, design attachment details, and produce stamped plans accepted by AHJs nationwide.
We handle ground-mounted monument signs, wall-mounted signs, projecting signs, canopy fascia signs, and fabric or metal awning frames.
Telecommunications Structures
Cell towers, telecom mounts, small cell attachments, and distributed antenna systems require structural analysis to verify that the host structure can carry the added loads. We provide structural analysis letters, stamped drawings, and load calculations for telecom projects on rooftops, utility poles, monopoles, and standalone lattice towers.
Outdoor Decking
Residential and commercial decks require engineering when they exceed certain size or height thresholds, or when the local AHJ requires stamped plans. We design decks for attachment to existing structures and as freestanding builds, with full load calculations, connection details, and stamped drawings.
Substations
Utility and commercial substations require structural and foundation engineering for equipment pads, structural steel frames, walls, and support structures. We provide PE-stamped plans for substation structural components, from transformer pads to control building foundations.
Pergolas and Canopies
Freestanding and attached pergolas, shade canopies, and outdoor cover structures often require a structural PE stamp, particularly for commercial applications or when the structure exceeds a certain size. We provide load calculations, connection details, and stamped drawings.
How It Works
How We Approach Specialty Structures
Every specialty structure project starts with a review of the site conditions, local code requirements, and the applicable load standards under ASCE 7. We determine the governing wind and seismic design criteria for the project location and size each structural element to meet those demands.
We produce permit-ready drawings with connection details, material specifications, and load calculations. Our plans are accepted by AHJs in all 50 states. If the reviewer has questions, your engineer is available to respond directly.
